Puget Sound Energy's Electric Distribution System Operations is looking for an Engineer II to join our team.
Our System Operations Team is responsible for the real-time monitoring and control of PSE's electric distribution system.
We are a team of skilled professionals who perform a critical role in safely and reliably operating the electrical grid.
The Engineers support real-time operations by solving complex emergent and planned issues on the distribution system, and are part of the project teams that bring the latest grid-management technology into the control center.
The Engineer II upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities, as well promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

This job is considered “safety sensitive” as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.
Job Responsibilities
Support Real-Time Distribution Operations:
Analyze Power Qulity issues on the primary system including transient and sustained voltage and balance concerns.
Coordinate with Regional Engineers to implement solutions.Monitors emerging industry trends and technologies that may lead to changes in operations.Work with Operators, Lead Operators, and Dispatchers to provide real-time analytical support of the ADMS and power system.Liaison with Planning, Internal Audit, and System Operations on RCA and outage data validation.Intake, management, and real-time ownership of technology-based issues experienced by Operators.Oversight, management, and engineering analysis of System Abnormal conditions.
This includes risk analyses of leaving system in a prolonged abnormal condition.This position provides occasional non-core hour operational engineering support to System Operators when encountering an emergent issue impacting the electrical distribution system, such as emergency storm work, or large-scale outage. Work as an integral part of the Project Team to support engineering functions for the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), and other Grid Modernization Projects.
This includes such things as:
Supporting the testing and commissioning of advanced applications and projects applying emerging technology.Ensuring that ongoing ADMS technical requirements are delivered in accordance with PSE specifications.Providing load flow interpretation/analysis to support planned/emergent work using Synergi, and eventually ADMS Load Flow and State Estimation.Operational readiness evaluation and scoping to ensure successful deployment of Smart Grid technology and working closely with peer support departments to firm up collaboration and support.Ensuring coordination and support of Distribution Automation projects through existing YFA and future FLISR ADMS advanced application.Responsible for System Operations business SOP and full readiness to support ADMS deployments. Work as an integral part of Operations Engineering Team to support engineering functions related to operationalizing the Virtual Power Plant (VPP), including but not limited to:
Supporting the scoping, integration, testing, and commissioning.Ensuring PSE's future interests and capabilities of the VPP align.Scheduling and deployment of Demand Side resources via the VPP. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field Experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating and scheduling (typically achieved after 3 or more years practice as a degreed engineer).
Years of acquired experience is provided as a guide and alone does not constitute readiness for job level as individual’s skill acquisition rates can vary significantly. Organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills. Desired Qualifications
1-2 years of utility engineering experience.Possession of or ability to acquire a Professional Engineering license.Experience in Schneider ADMS software platform.Familarity with equipment utilized in the design and operation of utilities.Experience working with both internal and external customers on projects.
